Welcome to Andrew Stanton's Personal BLOG

Here is a casual picture of me on a trip to Honolulu recently to visit family and friends!    I was born in Koror, Palau in 1965. Our family moved to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1972, where I spent the next 26 years of my life. I Lived in Nagoya, Japan between 1998 and 2001, where I met my wife Kiyomi, and we moved to San Francisco after returning to the states. I have been programming computers since 1990, since moving to San Francisco, I have been consulting for various clients under the name Stanton Web Applications. Currently, I'm consulting full-time for Jews For Jesus.

This site is a lot of things, a journal, a "blog", a collection of photos and thoughts of my travels, musings on history, philosophy, Christianity, and science, and also some technical information on Macs and PCs.   Hope you find it useful and interesting! This site uses Quicktime "progressive" streaming (I'll be supporting ReadMedia and Windows Media in the near future.)    Except for Quicktime technology from Apple Computer Corp., this site uses Open Source software, indicated below. Specifically, the computer hosting this site runs Red Hat Linux, Version 9.0, uses Apache as the web server, uses PHP to serve dynamic content, and stores data using a MySQL database server, all freely available, secure, very customizable, and of the highest quality. (Can you tell, I'm a little biased..). Well enough of that...

Working Hard
(Updated: 2008/05/28 22:40:10 PST)

Full day at iBloks. Most of that I put in my (private) journal I started doing again, May 11.
A New Beginning
(Updated: 2008/05/28 01:28:58 PST)

This is a New Beginning. My HP server (the one running Red Hat 9.0 faithfully for about 4 years) crashed spectacularly around the middle of last month... For a while I was sort of numb. I was able to put up the sites for my customers, but this blog (and my main site -- stantonweb.com) were down for a while.

Kiyomi started her blog May 17, and she's adding a lot of content to it every day. This has given me a lot of encouragement!!

(Updated: 2005/09/16 16:26:22 PST)

A full day. Cold still lingering a bit. Installed a fresh instance of InstallShield Express (Demo) - used it on a copy of Windows 2000 installed on Virtual PC to set up another staff screen exe - went through the whole process, now appears to be working well.

Phone call from Phil, he got back a few days ago (on the 11th). Joe is in Seattle for the next few weeks (total of 3 weeks). Let's see - what else - Kiyomi and I are going to an "opera" at her school - City College of San Francisco - main campus. Also set up another host (stantonweb2.com) as a back-up to store my files and other critical information. Process got finalized today - and I can start transferring stuff. This will be somewhat of a relief.

Now, I find one more - so I can have 2 backup sites in different parts of the country.

That's about it for now.

(Updated: 2005/09/14 21:25:38 PST)

Another day at work, approaching normalcy again. It was a full day - got in a little later (about 9:45) and worked until 6:00. I ate lunch at my desk. Kiyomi made a croissant filled w/ cream cheese - it was light but filling.

Spent most of the day fixing minor bugs and enhancing the offline database - I think I should be ready for a demo sometime tomorrow.

(Updated: 2005/09/14 21:08:54 PST)

First day at work Jews For Jesus after the cold. Still feeling a little sick, but getting better today. Caught the bus in to work, arriving around 9:00 (left a little earlier than normal). Was eager to get back to one after a not-so-good weekend. (though I got a lot of reading done - nearly two books - Genesis Question by Hugh Ross, and nearly finished w/ Beyond the Cosmos also)

More work on the offline database. Still a little run-down from the cold today. I walked home.

Kiyomi made okonomiyaki (Japanese pancakes) and it was very good.

Helped her until about 1 or 2:00 AM with a homework assignment - another essay she had to wrote due Thursday. Had to write a "non-triplicate" thesis.

Spent most of the evening reading "Beyond the Cosmos" when not helping Kiyomi. But you know it gets frustrating trying to edit her wording all the time. I do not enjoy it one bit.

(Updated: 2005/09/12 20:05:28 PST)

Well, this past weekend was a blur. Spent most of the time in bed. Kiyomi and I finally got up around 11:45. Kiyomi apparently is also getting sick.

Called in at JFJ to let them know I'm sick.

Just finished "breakfast" (we ate around 12:30 PM).

Still feeling a little dizzy, and some nasal congestion, but I'm feeling better than I did on Sat and Sun.

Well, now it's 2:30 PM. We are both up and working on our computers. I spent some time this afternoon making my blog site a little easier to navigate.

(Added at 8:04 PM) Spent most of the day relaxing, though I didn't get back to bed. Helped Kiyomi with her homework. Was on the computer blogging since 5:00 PM - made some more changes to the blog site so it is easier to navigate.

(Updated: 2005/09/12 13:24:17 PST)

Breakfast was two bagels with cream cheese and the red onion that we bought with the bagels last night. Very delicious.

It was as good as or better than the bagel shared last Sunday when we walked all the way through Golden Gate Park to Ocean beach.

Most of the day was a blur. Spent most of the time in bed, also a good deal reading - finished the book "The Genesis Question" by Hugh Ross this night (I'm auding two courses this summer from the Reasons To Believe institute) .

We saw "Taking Lives" early this evening (around 6:00), which was rather scary, and them "Mean Girls" again. Kiyomi seemed to enjoy that one a lot more.

Saturday, September 10, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/12 13:21:34 PST)

Well, the cold is getting worse. I spent a good deal of the day resting and also reading the book "The Genesis Question" which I started last night.

Was really not up to doing Camera work tonight, but I went to Cornerstone because I promised Susan I would take her place. Left at 6:00 PM

Fortunately though, Joe Krow offered to do the camera tonight, although I did set it up for him, and then went home. It was about 7:30 PM before I got home. It's almost better to walk, but I didn't feel like walking very much , though I ended up walking about half the way home.

We went to Albertson's after dinner (it was leftover pasta from yesterday) to pick up some videos ("Mean Girls", starring Lindsay Lohan and "Taking Lives", starring Angelina Jolie). Also picked up some yoghurt and bagels.

We saw "Mean Girls", and it was actually pretty funny. Reminded me a little of high school.

Friday, September 9, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/12 20:02:00 PST)

This morning, felt a little tired, so I caught the bus to work - getting in about 9:35.

More work today on the offline database. Making some good progress. Should be finished in another day or two, then I will test.

Kiyomi made a sandwich for me, but I had forgotten to tell her about the lunchean.

Had a going away lunchean at the "Crepe House" for Nate, fellow who was working on the jews4jesus.org web site for the last year.

He's going to work for McAffee as a "Internet Architect". Position sounded very interesting. Both he and I ordered the crepe called "Hawaiian" - containing cheese, onions, brown sugar, soy sauce and some other ingredients. It was very delicious. Might go there again with Kiyomi at some point.

This afternoon, started to develop a runny nose. Ironic because I took Susan Leong's place this sat. because she had developed a bad cold last week.

Got back around 6:00 PM. Also caught the bus home.

Hopped in the shower hoping I'd feel better.

Kiyomi made pasta for dinner, and she also got some of that walnut sourdough bread we liked. I got some for the first time last week.

But after dinner, rested for an hour, just getting up again now. I do feel better.

Red Hat 9.0 server (the one hosting this site) had a lot of disk activity, and I reset the web server that seemed to stop the activity. I think Joe might have been testing panlingua or something.

Thursday, September 8, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/08 18:28:29 PST)

Well, a rather full day. Left just after 9:00 this morning, caught a bus, putting me in to work at around 9:15.

More work on the offline db. Got it to sync in different pieces and updated the time-tracking so it works properly.

This afternoon met with Marty Schwebel and Skip Murphy as a follow-up to the leadership training. It was very encouraging. Also saw Bill Mertz working downstairs in the sanctuary and we chatted a while.

Last night, was up until around midnight working on this blog (blog.stantonweb.com) to get it to work for showing the web archives (wrote a command line program a few months back to archive home pages of major web sites like wired, etc.. - think I can automate this so it will work every night (or at a set interval)

That will be very useful for seeing what the news was like 6 months ago or a year ago...

Wednesday, September 7, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/07 21:15:35 PST)

Was a pretty "normal" day, weather is getting colder here in SF. Like yesterday, walked to work this morning, got in about 9:30 or so. Spent the day tweaking the off-line database application I've been working on the last few weeks, breaking up the sync function into several different steps.

Enough of that.

The situation in New Orleans, although apparently getting better deeply troubles me, and I feel like I am not doing enough to help.

I know giving money helps. Put things in perspective. The things I worry about that seem so important really aren't all the important after all. People have lost so much.

Maybe I should call my sister Heather to see how things are in Texas.

Tuesday, September 6, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/06 14:18:12 PST)

Blog covering the events in New Orleans was down for a while this morning, but it is back up. Some improvement to the city. The US Army Corps of Engineers fixed the levee, so now they can drain the city.    It will still take weeks.

Many feel that the govt. should have done a lot more to help and should have responded much quicker than it did.

Walked to work today - left at 8:50, arring at 9:15 PM. Nice morning, was a little chilly when I started out, but was sweating when I got to work.    Kiyomi made a curry stuffed croisant (from the curry she made last night).    It was very delicious.

Been working on the off-line database, and making some real progress. We'll be able to sync contacts reliably now after today.

The Woman at the Well
(Updated: 2005/09/12 19:44:48 PST)

Jesus answered and said to her,

"Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."

(John 4:13:14)

I heard a sermon a few weeks ago at Cornerstone Church in San Francisco, where I attend regularly. The sermon was about a conversation Jesus had with a certain Samaritan woman at a well during the heat of the day. She came to draw water, necessary for life, but Jesus was offering something that we all crave and most of us can never seem to find - that "living water."

We all need water to survive. We can survive without food for weeks, but without water, we can live perhaps 2 or 3 days. But how can we measure spiritual hunger and thirst. We know it's real, although many will try to deny it.

I was thinking some more about this short story this afternoon.. and I thought, This well the woman was drawing water from is something like a symbol for our souls, we want to drink because we are thirsty, so we drink and for the moment we are satisfied, but then in a few hours, we are thirsty again. We try to find the answers in ourselves, for a while our attempt at meaning or purpose satisfies, but then we thirst again. Ultimately, we can never be satisfied because the answers aren't there in the well of our souls.

You want proof - ask yourself what gives you meaning, and how often does that answer change.

(Updated: 2005/09/05 21:29:38 PST)

Kiyomi and I walked through Golden Gate park this afternoon. We left at 3:30, arriving at 4:30 at the other end (Park is over 3 miles long), had some coffee and very delicious onion bagel at a very crowded Java Ocean Beach Cafe (I think that's the name) a stone's throw from the beach.

Then we walked over and sat down on the beach for about 1/2 hour. It was still sunny, and a little windy, but not overly so. Lots of people out this afternoon. The cafe was also very crowded, too crowded to get a seat. We decided to catch the "Muni" N line back home (Haight-Ashbury), getting back around 6:00 PM.

(Updated: 2005/09/05 14:41:46 PST)

Looked at today's news on Wired magazine's site.

Saw some encouraging signs in New Orleans. A New Orleans web hosting company called directnic.com was on-line throughout the hurricane.

One of the employees has a blog called mgno.com that is keeping a daily log, reporting first hand with lots of pictures and commentary what is going on in the city. This really warms my heart.

Internet is changing the way we respond to emergencies like this in subtle and not so subtle ways.

Monday, September 5, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/05 13:51:40 PST)

Labor Day. The official end of summer. I'm helping Kiyomi with an assignment she has to do for her English writing class. She's critiquing an article about a professor's experience in teaching "Black English."

Fascinating topic. Similar issues with Hawaiian Pidgin English in Hawaii ("Da Kine").

Personally, I think everyone living in the US should learn to speak and write "Standard" English as much as they possibly can. "Standard" being what is commonly used in newspapers and the mass media throughout the US, Canada, UK and Commonwealth countries, and also most of Europe.

I don't think "Standard" English is superior to other dialects of English, but you will have better opportunities if you can use it well.

That being said, I think it is important to maintain your own language if you are not a native speaker of "Standard" English (or speak a dialect like Hawaiian Pidgin English or Creoles like "Black English"). It's not that difficult.

Europeans routinely speak 5 or 6 major languages, and often their native language is a less used dialect of the national language (a good example of this is "Swiss German" which a lot of Swiss Germans speak and use, but it is not "standard" German).

The Meaning of Katrina
(Updated: 2005/09/05 13:17:12 PST)

Since the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina earlier this week, we have seen an incredible amount of suffering. One is reminded of the Tsunami that hit Southeast Asia over Christmas last year. One thing that really struck me is that in spite of our technology and wealth, we were pretty helpless in the face of Katrina's fury. But great natural disasters are like that, they show us how vulnerable and fragile we really are. Perhaps, more surprising to me was how quickly lawlessness engulfed the city. The rapes, looting, suicide and anarchy were unprecedented. It took only 3 days to descend to this level of madness.

We should do everything in our power to help those who have lost their homes, their families, and their businesses. But in helping those who have suffered through this tragedy, we should also approach this episode in our nation's history with some humility.

We can't say to ourselves it couldn't happen to us; I'm above that sort of thing. After all, would we really fare any different if subjected to the same conditions as those unfortunate enough to be there during and after the hurricane? How many of us, normally so civilized and refined, would resort to the same levels of depravity?

I think the real meaning of Katrina is that more important than losing our wealth and our modern conveniences, we can lose our humanity. All it takes is 3 days.

Sunday, September 4, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/04 22:39:48 PST)

A typical foggy Sunday in SF. We got around 11:30 AM. Kiyomi wants me to lose weight so she had me make oatmeal without sugar for the both of us. She also wants to do some shopping this afternoon on Market street, but we'll have to walk downtown (it's about an hour's walk from here).

I'm still thinking about New Orleans, reports I've heard are that more relief is pouring in. Huge problems continue to exist in the Superdome where many were put. Here is the full article from wnd.com. †† Felt my donation to Jews For Jesus wasn't enough. Also gave $100.00 to the salvation army for disaster relief. I can't imagine the horror. I want to give more.

Walked downtown, taking about 1 hour (left at 2:00 PM), we arrived at 3:00 PM. Kiyomi went shopping at the San Francisco Shopping Center, I went over to the Apple Store. Had some cool new things - there was a demonstration of "iSight" a new video cam for the Mac.

I signed up for blog account (yabadaba.blogspot.com) - yaba stands for "Yet Another Blog for Andrew". but I think I like my own better because I have more control over the content and layout.

We got back just after 5:00 (we caught the bus home). Kiyomi made fried rice and miso for an early dinner Also had the bread I picked up last night on the way back from church. (it was walnut sourdough).

Spent most of the evening refining my blog site (blog.stantonweb.com) and also www.stantonweb.com - added the ability to edit pages (without having to use the database manager, which is versatile, but a little cumbersome)

Got a call from mom and Ernest around 8:00 PM. They are just returning from their two weeks in Waikiki. Mom and I worked out a tentative schedule for coming here for Angie's wedding at the end of October - she'll come Thurs and spent a week with us. We'll rent a car and drive down to San Diego for the wedding on Sat. Should be fun!

Saturday, September 3, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/05 00:16:46 PST)

Saturday. I've been thinking about Katrina all week. Very depressing. I gave some money ($100.00) to a fund yesterday(Jews For Jesus Staff Fund) at my workplace (Jews For Jesus) to help some of the victims of the tragedy. Jews For Jesus has over 9000 donors in that part of the country.

On a lighter note, got a phone call from a friend (Joe Devin) in Hawaii.   My wife Kiyomi also got a package from her friend Sakura, from Japan today.

But I have a deep sense of foreboding about our country in light of the madness that is taking place in what used to be New Orleans.

Friday, September 2, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/03 14:21:00 PST)

Was a pretty good day at work.    Spent most of the day refining some techniques to sync database changes on an application I'm working one for Jews For Jesus - an offline version of a web-based Intranet.    Walked back home. (It was only a twenty minute walk!).    Weather is getting cold again here in SF, fog started rolling in since Wednesday.   Also, set up a web site for my friend Philip Blackman when I came back home. Phil visited us earlier in the week from Hawaii. (www.hawaiicyberspace.com and phil.hawaiicyberspace.com)

Thursday, September 1, 2005
(Updated: 2005/09/03 14:45:00 PST)

Spent the day testing and working on the off-line database for the missionarries at Jews For Jesus. An off-color spoof at work came out earlier in the week. Executive director wrote a formal apology and sent to everybody today via email. Don't want to elaborate here because it's a little senstive.

August 2005

August 4-7, White Mountain
(Updated: 2005/09/05 21:35:00 PST)

My first hike up to a summit over 14,000 ft. I've camped in Haleakala, Maui (in 1989), but that was at an elevation less than 10,000. The material below is with two friends from church - Bill Mertz and Travis. We camped at 8600 ft about 10 miles from the start of the hike to the summit of " White Mountain" - 3rd tallest mountain in the State of California (Thanks Bill for correcting this - I had previously said it was the 3rd tallest in all of the lower 48 states!). In the same area as our campsite is the famous "Bristlecone Pine Forest" (some trees are over 4000 years old). (Informational links on White Mountain and Bristlecone Pine are to wikipedia.com - a free electronic encyclopedia.)

July 2005

July 15-25, Honolulu, and Maui, Hawaii
(Updated: 2005/09/12 19:53:14 PST)

Kiyomi, my wife, and I visited with family in Honolulu, and my brother Fred, on Maui. Last time we were in Hawaii before this trip was in 2002. I spent most of my life in Honolulu (lived there between age 7 and 33).

December 2004

Monday, December 6, 2004
(Updated: 2005/09/12 20:42:53 PST)

(NOTE: This was added from a WORD document I created last year - AGS)

Also updating this on Tuesday night ñ 10:57 PM.

Fairly normal day at work (10:30-6:30). Henry reports that JFJ is in the red. Had a meeting with David Stone at 1:30 PM in the afternoon, and I raised some concerns about the IT ñ gave him a list of projects that we really need.

The Qmail server was giving Henry problems again, but messages were still getting through, as far as I know.

Kiyomi made a very nice dinner of tofu and vegetables w/ gravy made with a little cheese and a litle curry ñ it was very delicious.

Sunday, December 5, 2004
(Updated: 2005/09/12 20:38:13 PST)

(NOTE: This was added from a WORD document I created last year - AGS)

Updating this on Tuesday night, December 7, 2004 (10:46 PM). Sunday another day getting up late ñ we got up around noon. Most of the day spent helpig Kiyomi with her final essay paper. Rather frustrating and tense. At one point in the evening I blurted out ìI have to change everything.î - and she wanted to give up after that, but we later calmed down.

We got to bed around 3:00 AM. I'm really feeling tired. I work a full day, and then have to be Kiyomi's teacher, which is not much fun, because I somehow have to explain grammatical concepts in a way that she can understand. But we did make up, and thankfully, this will end in another week, when her class is over.

I don't want to go through this anymore, really don't.

Made dinner in the afternoon (about 6:00) ñ fried vegetables and tofu.

One bright spot ñ was able to get query strings to work for the scripting languages using PHP scripts, but it was very klugy, I'm sure there is a better way, maybe with SSI (server side includes).

Saturday, December 4, 2004
(Updated: 2005/09/12 20:29:50 PST)

(NOTE: This was added from a WORD document I created last year - AGS)

Had trouble sleeping again last night. I also had more dreams, sexual in nature ñ dreamed that I made love w/ Kiyomi, but it was tense. I don't know why I feel so tense. We got up this morning close to noon. Most of the afternoon I spent looking at the site discovery.org ñ a site devoted to Intelligent Design ñ they also have some very interesting articles on the stem cell debate that I thought were very germaine to what Kiyomi was writing.

Set up the camera and did the camera for Cornerstone again tonight. I always get something out of Pastor Terry Brisbane's messages ñ but why is it I don't feel more intimate there ñ is it me ñ maybe I don't make enough of an effort to make friends there. I kind of feel like Robert ñ I ìworkî there, but I'm an outsider. Same feeling I get from Jews For Jesus ñ but Darren, whom I shared these feelings with yesterday, said that the DOME agents feel the same sort of disconnect.

This is comforting. I know that I'm not alone or somehow overlooked, maybe the Christmas spirit hasn't caught up with me yet. Message tonight was pretty simple - ìIt's Christmas Timeî - but I think last year's theme was more significant - ìUntil That Dayî , yet looking back over the year, what an amazing time of growth it was.

Just getting back now ñ it's 9:22 PM. Time for dinner.

Friday, December 3, 2004
(Updated: 2005/09/12 20:30:59 PST)

(NOTE: This was added from a WORD document I created last year - AGS)

I think I finally got some sleep between 7:00 and 9:00 AM. Work at Jews For Jesus was pretty normal. I managed to finish all the code related to the date fields (so they'd use pop-up screens instead of text fields).

Talked to Darren for about an hour late in the afternoon (around 4:00). Also briefly David Stone came in to the computer room with his wife to tell about the Christmas party and to pick a slip of paper to buy a gift for ñ it was Darren's wife ñ Melissa.

Around lunchtime- John ìthe philosopherî came by again ñ I was showing him how to play Go on Monday. He is fascinating to talk to ñ very thoughtful. I wish I could commesirate with him more but I feel a little guilty if I'm not working for very long. John, Henry and I were talking about AI, and other things.

Finished about 6:28 tonight. Zipped up my work for today, did a backup, printed out the invoice.

On the way home, stopped at the grocery store on the block ñ Haight foods ñ and picked up some Baklava and oatmeal raisin cookies. They were playing some Greek music (owner is a short Greek man, and I immediately thought of Alexander who was from Greece though technically from ìMacedon.î

Tonight, Kiyomi made koroke for dinner. It was fabulous!! She made it with carrots, onions, pumpkin, potato, and a little tofu. Also had some wine ñ which I had been looking forward to.

I bought electronic tickets to Utah tonight to visit Chase and the family ñ through Orbitz ñ it was the first time buying tickets on the Web. For United Airlines.

It felt really good to commit to doing something about going after just talking about it Kiyomi was kind of moping for a while (complains I ignore her when I am with relatives), but then started to warm up to the idea later. She asked me to write out a promise in her appt. book that I wouldn't ignore her.

I really thought it was silly, but I did, and signed and dated it.

We had hot cocoa and some cookies about 20 minutes ago (it's now 12:15 AM Sat. morning) ñ Kiyomi still reading through an article she founin Scientific American on stem cells.

Thursday, December 2, 2004
(Updated: 2005/09/08 22:00:50 PST)

(NOTE: This was added from a WORD document I created last year - AGS)

I am updating this on Friday, Dec. 3, 2004. Today was pretty good actually. Good work in the day with Jews For Jesus - put in a full day's work there. Work at JFJ was pretty normal ñ I think I turned off the PPP automation on the Dome end of things so that it wouldn't create new bad orders.

Met Robert Mohr at 6:35 PM in front of the Metreon ticket lines downstairs at the Metreon ñ to see ìAlexanderî, starring Colin Farrell as Alexander and Angelina Jolie as his mother Olympias. The movie started at 6:50, went for 3 hours. It was long but very fast-paced, and never seem to let up ñ I guess like Alexander himself, who rushed through Asia by the time he was 33. The movie was rich ñ scenery was incredible, especially the scene when he enters Babylon with his troops. He must have been quite an amazing man, and you could see why his troops were so loyal to him, they went all the way into India. I only wished there was a little more character development.

Movie ended near 10:00 ñ it was close to 11:00 before I got home. Only thing we had to eat was the popcorn, but I thought it was too late to eat anything.

Kiyomi talked about her classes ñ she was really upset because she got two Fs ñ on two different quizzes, and was feeling very depressed but talkative.

I talked a little bit about the movie.

We went to bed just past midnight, but I couldn't sleep. Kiyomi was snoring a lot, so I kept getting up.

I also had another strange dream. I dreamed I was taking a test ñ it was a math test, but it was for a test I didn't know I had to take so I unprepared for it, and didn't study for it. There was a tub things on my desk making sounds, so I couldn't concentrate. A student, a girl got up in the center of the classroom and started chatting loudly to another student about her experiences earlier in the summer, and I was sweating because time was running out of the test. As I recall the problem was something related to Fourier series or some such thing.

Wednesday, December 1, 2004
(Updated: 2005/09/08 21:53:48 PST)

(NOTE: This was added from a WORD document I created last year - AGS)

Had a strange dream last night ñ I dreamed I was at a college graduation ñ all my high school, and college friends from Kalani, Wabash, and the graduate program at UH were all graduating, but I was not. I flipped Frank Chuberko (gave him the finger) in my dream. It was very strange. Haven't really talked to Frank since high school. Maybe deep down I consider myself a failure on some level.

Good day, but I felt a little discouraged. Got more changes in for the database. Also found a way to view (only) MS-access databases in Linux, which I thought was pretty exciting, but Henry wasn't impressed. (MDB Tools)

Mostly minor changes and enhancements to the contacts database -

In the afternoon, based on Wendy's request, made a calendar ìwidgetî so we can manipulate dates in the Contact DB application (and other places) ñ this will be good down the road.
